Wesleyan Market

Today I am just getting ready for the Wesleyan Market tomorrow morning. It's a wonderful, monthly market in Macon highlighting goods from local farmers and creations from local artists .... including my little whimsies! So as I'm packing and loading up, please enjoy a few snapshots from the paper process.....

Breaking It In

So I spent last night working in my studio for the first time. Just did some easy, low-key projects for this weekend's Wesleyan Market. Take a look....

Some loverly fall and Halloween themed cards from my handmade papers.

Some cute Christmas papers - may be used as tags or cut-outs for cards and scrapbooks.

And some nice, thick papers that will eventually be used as covers for some handmade journals.

All of these little whimsies were made from recycled cereal boxes.

Secondhand Whimsy Studio Grand Opening

Today is the grand opening of my back room studio, Secondhand Whimsy! Okay, so the "grand opening" is only for me, but I am super excited! I have been working hard for a couple of weeks now setting up, and my husband is glad that my materials are no longer taking up the dining room (...and kitchen... and living room). Tonight I am all set up and working in my new space for the first time.

I actually share my studio with my handsome, talented husband, who is a pencil/ink artist of immense talent. Check out his web comic at www.sgcforlornhope.com.

Here are a few pics from my half of the studio:

The painting of my dog hanging in the window here is one of my creations!

Now you might be asking, "I wonder what she does in her studio?" I create unique works of art from recycled and repurposed materials, including screen paintings, sun paintings (the look of stained glass with a more affordable price tag!), handmade paper, cards from handmade paper, and gift tags from handmade paper. Now that I have my own space, I will also be creating journals from my handmade paper and pulp paintings. Really, I look at every junkie thing I see and ask myself, "Self, what could you make with that?", so you might see anything come out of this studio. Here are a just a *couple* of examples of my work:

 "Betsy Ross Flag" Screen Painting

 "The Urban Chicken" Screen Painting

"Tree of Life" Sun Painting (hangs in my living room)

"Whimsical Mermaid" Sun Painting (hangs in my oldest daughter's window)

Thus far I have been selling my secondhand whimsies at a local, monthly market, but as I am setting up my physical studio and this blog I am also setting up my Etsy store. Check back soon as I update my listings!
